  • Horsemanship for the future horse owner
  • The History of the Horse
  • Horses in North America
  • Native Americans and Horses
  • Horse disciplines, breeds, colors, markings, terminology, anatomy
  • Hunt Seat Riding with a discussion about Fox Hunting
  • Horses in Competition – Olympics, World Games, Pan-American Games, National Competitions, State & Regional Competitions.
  • How to be a good competitor
  • Careers with Horses – What it takes to get accepted to a School of Veterinarian Medicine and other great careers. Core curriculum needed to create a path. Setting Goals.

And many more…

We will ask our campers what interests them and tailor each week to our group.

We also might go on a field trip to Sonoma Horse Park to watch a competition in action.

On Fridays
We will offer a Horse Show with equitation flat classes to be judged on the riders’ form and a pole jumping course class to be judged on the quality of the track ridden; pace, line, and rhythm or a Gymkhana, an equestrian event consisting of speed pattern racing, for us at the walk and trot, and timed games for riders on horses. In parts of the western United States, this type of competition is usually called an “O-Mok-See” competition, a term derived from a Native American phrase said to mean “games on horseback”. These used to be small events with little or no prize money, designed for beginners or riders at a local level. “Gymkhana” is the word used in most of the rest of the English-speaking world, including the United Kingdom and both the East Coast and the West Coast of the United States.

Cancelation policy for camps: MHRA will refund 50% of deposit prior to April 10th, 2023. On May 15th, 2023, all balances due for summer camps will be charged to the card on file. At that point, should you be unable to attend your camp session, MHRA will do its best to accommodate make-up dates for camp based on space available — or convert camp to a month of lessons. However, funds will not be refunded.
